Balboa Beach is well known for it's many attractions. Since 1936, the Balboa Fun Zone's Ferris Wheel has been a day and night landmark on the Newport Harbor scene. The Fun Zone offers family fun for all ages, in addition to the Ferris Wheel it also has a carousel, arcades, fun food, and shops. The Merry-go-round is only about $2.00 per ride and the Ferris Wheel is about $3.00.

The sand at Balboa Beach is clean and raked. Surfing, swimming, body-boarding and skim-boarding can all be lots of fun here. There is Volleyball on the beach and walking paths nearby. This is a no-alcohol beach. There is no admittance fee to the beach but there is a parking fee.

Swimming lessons can be found on the beach during the summer and the 920-foot pier at Balboa Beach was voted Orange County's best.

On the southern most tip of the Balboa Peninsula, is "the wedge". It is known as one of the toughest bodysurfing spots, this is a place for experienced bodysurfers and swimmers.. It is fun to watch the skim-boarders but if you are thinking of joining them, be aware - the conditions can be extreme.
